Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation (VISET) launched the Interactive Voter Mobilisation and Education Mobile Application (IVMEA) virtually yesterday Wednesday the 19th of January 2022.
VISET Programmes Manager Gillian Chinzete said application is part of the Enhanced Informal Sector Voter Mobilisation and Advocacy Initiative (EISeVOMA) which seeks to boost participation of informal economy actors and persons with disabilities in governance processes. The programme was promulgated as a result of the realization that many within this group of people were traditionally left out of voter education and awareness campaigns and hence VISET made deliberate purposeful actions to ensure that this critical demographic of the population was not left out.
The Mobile Application Developer Mr Tawanda Mashava took participants through the application, which admittedly for many was pretty straightforward. He also provided a download link for the application and said that they were awaiting approval from Google play store such that it would be easier to download from there. Samuel Wadzai the Executive Director of VISET in officially launching the application said that it was important to be cognisant of the fact that whilst they were officially launching of the application, there would be more improvements to be done incorporating views and feedback from users.
Wadzai also expressed gratitude to the technical team, VISET partners and membership for the support in making the event a success and said that this was just but a complimentary role they were playing to the efforts by the national electoral body in voter awareness and that the information to be found on the application had been obtained from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).
Wadzai expressed the hope that the application would greatly assist in boosting the number of people intending to register to vote ahead of the 2023 elections as they would be clearer on the requirements needed and said that his organisation in concert with its partners was ready to assist in even providing shuttle services to registration centres countrywide.
