Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic Transformation (VISET) joins the nation in celebrating our 44th Independence anniversary.
This year’s celebration is being held under the theme Zim@44: Unity, Peace and Development Towards Vision 2030”, with the main event being at Murambinda, Buhera. Ours is a nation that was birthed following a protracted war of liberation that saw the lives of many freedom fighters and civilians being lost. We dare not forget the ultimate sacrifice they gave for us to achieve majority rule.
Today, the nation is faced with another struggle, and that is one of achieving economic prosperity, and the informal economy is the anchor upon which this can be achieved, given the number of people and contribution to GDP. To attain this, it is important for government policies to be aligned with this reality, and to this end, we remain hopeful that the Formalization Strategy as led by the Ministry of Public Service and Social Welfare, will be finalized, in order to bring the informal economy to the table.
There can never be a more fitting tribute to the fallen heroes, than ensuring that we give dignity and socio economic justice to the majority poor, many of whom are our hardworking mother’s through provision such as social protection and adequate service delivery to alleviate the burden of unpaid domestic work.
So as we celebrate, it is also a moment where we call upon government and indeed the nation to collectively rally around how we can best address the economic plight of the majority, to ensure we attain the goal of an upper middle income economy by 2030, so that we can genuinely leave no place and no one behind!
Amhlophe, Congratulations, Makorokoto Zimbabwe!!
